Is This Workshop Right for Me?
This workshop is designed for staff members in university administration, project management teams, and IT organizers who want to use GitLab not only as a version control system, but as a comprehensive project management tool. If you are currently coordinating projects with many participants, need to define clear responsibilities, and require visual planning, this workshop is ideal for you.
You will benefit particularly if you:
- Want to structure administrative processes more clearly
- Would like to receive automated notifications in Webex
- Need standardized project templates for recurring tasks
Note: For purely version control functions, we recommend the external basic course “Git and Version Control with Git” . This workshop focuses specifically on GitLab’s project management features.
Prerequisites:
- Access to GIT.NRW
- Basic understanding of project management concepts
What Will I Learn?
In this practical workshop, we will work together to explore the key features for effective project management in university administration:
- Group structuring: Learn how to create main and subgroups – directly based on the section Creating a New Group from the manual
- Using project templates: Learn how to import a standardized project template – step-by-step according to the section Creating a New Project
- Ticket management: Systematic organization with prioritization and workflow labels – practically applied as in the section Description of Basic Functions
- Permission concepts: Assigning roles in a meaningful way
- Webex integration: Setting up automated notifications – directly following the section Setting up Webex Notifications
